Experiencing Ponds Forge in Sheffield

After competing in Long Course (50m) events in Swansea and Aldershot, members of the Wyre Forest team travelled to Sheffield over the weekend of 5/6/7th April to take part in the Derventio eXcel Spring Meet. Given that a large number had just returned from a week’s hard training in Cyprus, fatigue was also a factor they had to overcome as well as some tough northern opposition. Despite this the swimmers did extremely well swapping the heat of Cyprus with the heat inside Ponds Forge International Sports Centre.
Lillie Grover picked up 6 Silver medals in the girls 10/11 years age group in the 200 & 400m freestyle, 50 & 100m butterfly and the 100 & 200m backstroke events.
Jasmin Yates showed grit & determination in winning Silver in the 13 years 200m butterfly and a Bronze in the 100m backstroke.
Nathaniel Crowther was up against some tough opposition who had been rested for the event and he narrowly missed out on the medals finishing 4th in the 15/16 years 200m back, when in the bottom half of the age group. Both Abbie Rowley (17 years) and Mollie Kilgour (13 years) recorded good pb’s in the 50m breaststroke & 800m freestyle respectively.
All swimmers will be now rested for the West Midlands Regional Championships which take place this weekend and next in Coventry.
