On Sunday 17th June, clubs from across the county gathered at Wolverhampton baths for the County Relay Championships, where each club entered teams into the boys and girls varying age groups for both freestyle and medley relays. At these championships the ages of the swimmers were as at that day and no one was allowed to ‘swim up’ an age group except in the open categories.

Wyre Forest was represented by one boys team in the 13/14 years age group and four girls teams in the 9/10, 11/12, 13/14 and Open age groups.

Our 13/14 year old boys swam a nail biting 4x50m freestyle relay final to become the County Champions in their age group, with each of our swimmers recording sub 30 seconds in their 50 metres, Adam Newey (28.92), Jeremy Summers (29.21), Nathaniel Crowther (26.40) and Robert Darbyshire (25.32). The boys also won Silver in the 4x50m medley relay.

Our 11/12 year old girls, Lillie Grover, Alexandra Hayes, Jasmin Yates and Millie Gardner, won Bronze medals in both the 4x50m freestyle relay and the 4x50m medley relay.

Our ladies open age group of Lucy Nicholls, Imogen Cook, Abbie Rowley and Emily Watkiss won Bronze in the 4x50m freestyle relay and finished 4th in the medley relay.

Our youngsters in the 9/10 age group, Lily Colley, Iona Denton, Eve Williams and Brecon Westwood finished 4th in the medley relay, with our 13/14 year old girls, Matilda Calder, Chloe Lawson, Mia Walton and Lucy Nicholls also finishing 4th in the freestyle relay.

Head Coach Brian McGuinness stated, ‘These great results came from outstanding quality and for me as Head Coach I was very, very pleased to see what we’ve been doing in training put into practice in the race. Good job all the swimmers who competed, you did Wyre Forest proud.’
