ASA Learn to Swim Framework
We follow the ASA Learn to Swim Framework as part of the ASA Learn to Swim Pathway, the all-inclusive programme which takes the non swimmer from his or her first splash to developing confidence and competence in the water. Produced by the ASA to assist and support the delivery of swimming lessons, we feel it’s the best way to teach children to swim. The ASA Learn to Swim Pathway is a refreshed version of the National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS).
The Framework is already the most successful sports programme of its kind. The syllabus is currently being implemented in over 1,000 swimming programmes nationwide as well as being adopted overseas. The ASA Learn to Swim Framework has been developed to use fun and games to take children from their first splash to full competence in the water through 10 stages. It’s underpinned throughout by Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) principles, with clear progression between each stage. The framework allows teachers to deliver consistent lessons with the ability to add their own imagination and initiatives to the framework and come up with different ways to reach the outcomes.
The dedicated Learn to Swim section of the Wyre Forest Swim Club offers lessons in stages 1 to 5, after this swimmers are moved into the main part of the club to continue their training to whatever level they desire.
