Our ‘Shark’ Squad
Once your swimmer has completed our seven Learn To Swim stages, they can progress seamlessly in to our Shark Squad. In this squad, swimmers will be introduced to the world of competitive swimming, which includes learning about the legalities of swimming (as set by World Aquatics, formerly known as FINA). Swimmers will also be introduced to a variety of race skills, such as starts, turns and transitions, and finishes.
Swimmers in this squad are working towards developing strong stroke technique and an understanding of essential and basic competitive skills; the aim of this squad is for swimmers to achieve 25m – 50m legal swims (unlicensed) in all four strokes, in order to be considered for the next group. Not only do these swims need to be ‘legal’, but they also need to show efficiency, effectiveness and purpose.
Our 1-hour Shark sessions are available Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at King Charles 1 School at 6.30pm and on Saturdays at Holy Trinity at 12.30pm. The squad will be run by our teaching team, who have extensive competition experience, so swimmer’s will be familiar with them from our Learn To Swim program. In order to keep things fresh, teachers may swap around every now and again for staff training and development, as well as keeping sessions exciting!
Swimmers at this stage are encouraged to participate in a selection of our internal and development competitions, as these provide a good opportunity for children to learn all about the world of competitive swimming. Events such as 25m Club Sprint Nights, themed House Gala’s, and more.
